A friend and I went to Momofuku Daisho for lunch on Thursday because of Winterlicious. For those who don’t know, restaurants that participate in Winterlicious have set course meals available at a discounted price from January 30th to February 12th!
Momofuku is located at the Shangri-La hotel in the Financial District, and it is just a few minutes walk away from Osgoode Station. The restaurant has 3 floors that serves 3 different things. Many Torontonians know of Momofuku Noodle Bar which is on the first floor. But there is also Momofuku Milk Bar, and Nikai on the second floor that services baked goods and ice cream. Daisho and Shoto are located on the third floor. The ambiance between the noodle bar and Daisho are very different. One with a more casual atmosphere with bench tables, and the latter with a more classy vibe due to the high glass ceiling and spacious table arrangements. Daisho also has bar seats available.
We didn’t have a reservation, so we had to leave a name and wait for a call. The host was really nice and offered us a table instead of the bar seats because a reservation was cancelled.
The lunch was $28.
This salad consisted of arugula, apples covered in kimchi purée, bacon and Greek yogurt. The ingredients came together to create a nice sweet and sour taste. The yogurt was an interesting touch, and the arugula suited it perfectly. And well, I just ate the bacon on its own.
Originally, I was going to stray away from the Winterlicious menu just so I could get the hanger steak ssam which some of the people at other table ate LOL. Nonetheless, the dish was good. It looked like a typical fish filet to me, but the toppings and sauce really made the dish tasty. The cilantro-mayonnaise sauce was amazing with the fried scallions. The green onion chilli sort of thing added some spice to it too.
Frozen Chocolate Mousse
The only word I can use to describe this dessert is “heavenly.” It was so good! The toasted rice added a crunchy texture that worked well with the milk mousse and chocolate. This was easily my most favourite thing out of the set meal because I have a sweet tooth. I think the easiest way to impress me is through dessert~
